Poems

I am writing these poems for my Senior Seminar class and following them up with essays on the topic I address in the poem. The following are the poems that I have written...let me know what you think:
****
Religion:
The Word

Community of followers believe
The idea of it
Powerful in what it represents
Control your actions
On the basis of the word
Responsibility cannot be owned by you alone
You believe because they can
Teach me a lesson
Supporting a world of common practice
Finding a relation between all of us
So that it becomes about something else
No longer about it for the sake of it
But for the sake of yourself
****
Love:
Coup d'état
Complete in relation
To you I feel connected
On some level
We get it
We get each other
In this space that perpetuates our understanding
That holds us here under the microscope
To see through
Our rose colored glasses
Tint the world with our understanding of us
We know the same story
No one else could know
The ending is the beginning of the production
Of the cycle within itself
****
Friendship:
Relate

Meaningful relation that is found
Within a special place in my heart
There you are
Where it takes more than words
To create this bond
That we know
We get each other in a way that
No one else can understand
What draws us here
Is real love, trust, compassion
For another person so real
Like you are
So real that I can’t even define
Who
We are
Perfect here
*****
Integrity:
Define

True to me I stand
Here in front of you
Clinging to my definitions of righteousness
Questioning my choice
In relation to you
Do I fumble?
Can I hold my ground with you
Challenging my understanding of your structures
Where do they differ from my structures
Created in this idea of perfection
How do I remain true
To me
****
Prejudice:
Glass Ceiling

Limit me in your world
Because of my features over which
I have no control
Judge me as I function
In this world you have created
I cannot climb out of the box
You’ve built the walls too high
To scale me against you
It’s not fair
When you choose you
Eliminate options
****
Race:
(see chocolate man entry)
